Today marked the first day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, held in Melbourne. It was a day dominated by Australia. Winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first. Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja opened the innings for Australia, contributing a solid 89-run partnership in about 20 overs.
Sam Konstas, making his debut, impressed with a quick-fire 60 runs, making the Indian bowlers toil for wickets in the first session. Khawaja added a steady 57, while Marnus Labuschagne contributed a valuable 72 runs. Steven Smith remained unbeaten with 68 runs, taking Australia to a commanding total of 311 runs by the end of the day’s play.
At stumps, Steven Smith and Pat Cummins were at the crease, ensuring Australia maintained their strong position. Indian bowlers struggled for most of the day, much to the disappointment of their fans in this series. However, India fought back in the final session, picking up three wickets for just nine runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Akashdeep, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar picked up a wicket each.

The partnership between Konstas and Khawaja in the first session was a highlight, putting India on the back foot early on. Yet, India’s late comeback has added excitement to the match. Let’s hope tomorrow’s play brings as much thrill as today’s action.
Till then, goodbye, and take care!
