The fifth Test match of India vs Australia BGT is currently being played between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Indian team has been under pressure throughout this series, with Australia leading 2-1 after India’s defeat in the previous match. If India’s performance does not improve, the team risks being eliminated from the ICC Test Championship scheduled to take place in June.
In today’s match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was unavailable, and Jasprit Bumrah led the team in his absence. Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat first. Without Rohit, the opening partnership consisted of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. However, Rahul (4) was dismissed early, caught by Sam Konstas off a fuller delivery from Mitchell Starc. Jaiswal (10) followed a few overs later, falling to Scott Boland.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli came to the crease next but couldn’t provide much stability. Gill was dismissed for 20 runs, while Kohli managed only 17 before being caught in the slips. Rishabh Pant then stepped in and added some much-needed stability, scoring 40 runs. However, he too fell victim to Boland’s short-length delivery. Nitish Kumar Reddy was dismissed for a golden duck on the very next ball, leaving India in a precarious position.

The middle and lower order couldn’t salvage the innings, with Ravindra Jadeja contributing 26 runs before being trapped lbw by Starc. Washington Sundar (14) and Prasidh Krishna (3) were also dismissed cheaply. India’s first innings came to a close at 185 runs after losing all 10 wickets.
