The second day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy began with Australia’s score at 320/6, with Steven Smith and Pat Cummins at the crease. Together, they forged a remarkable partnership of 112 runs, helping Australia reach a first-innings total of 474 before being bowled out.

Steven Smith played a brilliant innings of 140 runs, creating history by becoming the player with the most centuries (11) in Test matches against India. Pat Cummins provided solid support with a valuable 49-run knock. Despite their efforts, the Indian bowlers worked hard to dismiss Australia in the morning session. Jasprit Bumrah stood out with figures of 4/99, while Ravindra Jadeja took 3/78. Akash Deep contributed with 2/94, and Washington Sundar chipped in with 1/49.
India’s innings was opened by Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Rohit fell early to a short ball from Pat Cummins. Jaiswal and KL Rahul then steadied the innings. Jaiswal’s impressive 82-run knock has given India hope going into the third day.
KL Rahul contributed 24 runs, while Virat Kohli added 36. By the end of the day’s play, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant managed to keep the innings steady, taking India to 164/5. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland were the pick of the Australian bowlers, claiming two wickets each.
Both teams displayed a balanced performance on the second day, setting up an exciting contest for the days ahead.
